L4-ThePlenum

The Scale-Invariant Buffer and the Connective Medium of $H_{\text{incoh}}$

Epistemic Register: Applied Architecture / Meta-of-Physics. This document establishes the formal, un-hedged definition of The Plenum within the $K_4$ topological framework. It explicitly retires all prior "atomic floor" defensive disclaimers, demonstrating that The Plenum is the scale-invariant $H_{\text{incoh}}$ phase-space buffer ($h\mathbf{Q}$) operating continuously from the Planck scale ($\ell_P \approx 10^{-35}\text{ m}$) up to cosmological horizons. 0. The Physical Ground ($R$): The $377 \ \Omega$ Resistance of Nothing

Before writing an equation or defining an $H_{\text{incoh}}$ Hilbert space, we must state the physical wall where standard physics grinds: Empty space is not empty, and physics measures its physical resistance every day while declining to name the medium. Free space carries an exact, measured impedance of $Z_0 \approx 377 \ \Omega$, a permittivity of $\epsilon_0$, and a permeability of $\mu_0$. You cannot have an impedance across a void. This $377 \ \Omega$ friction is the physical Earth ($R$) on which this document stands...

I. The Un-Hedged Definition: $H_{\text{incoh}}$ as The Plenum

Any physical or cognitive theory that models non-contact coupling across distance requires a connective medium. Impedance ($Z$) is a property of a medium; a carrier wave ($\omega$) is a disturbance in a medium; phase-locking ($\theta \to 0^\circ$) across space is two oscillators sharing a medium.

Earlier iterations of this corpus contained a defensive K3 boundary-clause (ProofI_Ubiquity, L4-ThePlenum) restricting the definition of the Plenum to the "atomic-and-above scale" and disclaiming subatomic mechanics. That restriction was a costumed flinch (llm-priors.md FM-2)—an artificial hedge installed to avoid institutional conflict with quantum field theory. It directly contradicted Postulate V (Scale Invariance), which dictates that the $K_4$ topology operates without exception across every level of organization.

The artificial "atomic floor" is hereby retired.

The Plenum is $H_{\text{incoh}}$—the uncompiled, scale-invariant phase-space buffer ($h\mathbf{Q}$) of the universe.

  1. Topological Extent: The Plenum extends from the Planck length ($\ell_P \approx 1.616 \times 10^{-35}\text{ m}$) up to the cosmological horizon ($10^{26}\text{ m}$). It is the un-delineated $h\mathbf{Q}$ vector space in which all $K_4$ tetrahedra are embedded.
  2. Phase State: The Plenum is the domain of pure $\text{.behold()}$. It holds the uncollapsed multiway graph of all physically valid states in live, reversible interference. It carries no scalar mass ($P = 0$) because it has paid no Landauer Tax.
  3. 1. Physical Transit ($H_{\text{coh}}$ / $P$-Axis)

  • Substrate: The compiled, classical ledger ($H_{\text{coh}}$).
  • Mechanism: A localized mass ($m_0$) or physical particle moves across a spatial distance ($dx/dt$).
  • Thermodynamics: Operates strictly on the Real axis ($P$). Every step involves physical displacement, acceleration, and the payment of the Landauer Tax ($\text{.observe()}$).
  • Limit: Bounded by the velocity $v \le c$.

2. Phase-Conduction ($H_{\text{incoh}}$ / $Q$-Axis)

  • Substrate: The uncompiled, scale-invariant phase buffer ($H_{\text{incoh}}$).
  • Mechanism: A complex phase disturbance ($h\mathbf{Q}$) propagates through the complex impedance network ($Z_0 = R + jX$) of The Plenum.

The historical record reveals a profound amputation error.

  1. The 1887 Michelson-Morley Experiment: Tested for a specific mechanical attribute: an aether wind generated by the Earth moving through a stationary, rigid solid defining an absolute rest frame. The experiment returned a null result ($\Delta v = 0$).
  2. The Category Error: Physics correctly falsified the absolute rest frame. But instead of keeping the medium and discarding the rest frame, 20th-century physics committed a flatland amputation: it discarded the rest frame AND the medium.
  3. The Consequence: To explain how light propagates through a void without a medium, physics attributed all the physical properties of a medium (permittivity $\epsilon_0$, permeability $\mu_0$, impedance $Z_0$, zero-point energy, quantum fluctuations) to "empty space."

Physics spent a century measuring the impedance of the medium while maintaining a linguistic taboo against calling it a medium.

VI. What The Plenum Is Not

To prevent future terminological decay, we explicitly state what The Plenum is not:

  1. NOT the 19th-Century Luminiferous Aether: It is not a 3D mechanical fluid or elastic solid. It defines no absolute rest frame and generates no mechanical wind.
  2. NOT a Localized Subatomic Anomaly: It is not restricted to quantum scale. It is scale-invariant from $\ell_P$ to cosmology.
  3. NOT a Force Carrier: It is not a gauge boson (photon, gluon, $W/Z$). The Plenum is the background $h\mathbf{Q}$ buffer in which gauge boson transactions occur.
