but it works with socks proxy

What is an http proxy?

An HTTP proxy is an intermediary server (e.g. privoxy) that accepts HTTP client requests and forwards them on your behalf, whereas SOCKS, is mostly just a generic TCP tunnel.

I'm not sure why anyone would really need an http proxy, except that it'd be nice to test an http proxy is working in the first place. So there's something to that at least. Otherwise socks5 with hostname resolution seems unequivocally better.

0xtrr has a list of relay onions, but in testing them all just now I was only able to connect to his relay and the bitcoiner.social relay. All the other ones won't allow writing to the relay via tor. Connecting to nostr over tor seems a little problematic, but that's probably a different discussion.
