Traits Editor 🧬

Traits Editor Dialog

The Traits Editor lets you decide which personality traits viewers can add or remove from their pawns, and how many coins those actions cost.

This is great for balancing gameplay — you can make good traits expensive to add, or let viewers remove bad ones more easily.

Tip: You need to have a game loaded (a save file open) so the editor can see all traits from the base game and your mods.

How to Open the Traits Editor

  1. Load a RimWorld save.
  2. Click the RICS button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Select Traits Editor.

You can also open it from:

  • Mod Settings → RICS → Game Events & Cooldowns tab
  • The main menu before loading a save

Understanding the Layout

Left Side – Mod Sources

  • Lists every mod that adds traits.
  • Click All to see everything, or click a specific mod to filter just its traits.
  • Shows how many traits each mod contributes.

Top Bar

  • Search bar: Type part of a trait name (e.g. "tough" or "fast") to filter the list instantly.
  • Sort buttons: Click to sort by Name, Add Price, Remove Price, or Mod Source. Click again to reverse the order.

Main List

For each trait you see:

  • Name and description — What the trait does.
  • Can Add checkbox — Turn this on so viewers can buy the trait for their pawn.
  • Can Remove checkbox — Turn this on so viewers can pay to remove the trait.
  • Bypass Limit checkbox — Allow adding this trait even if the pawn already has the maximum number of traits.
  • Add Price — How many coins it costs to add this trait.
  • Remove Price — How many coins it costs to remove this trait.
  • Reset buttons next to prices — Put the price back to the default.

Click the trait name or icon for more details if you want to read the full description.

Making Changes

Editing One Trait

  1. Find the trait using search or by clicking its mod on the left.
  2. Check or uncheck the Can Add and Can Remove boxes.
  3. Type new numbers in the price boxes.
  4. Use Bypass Limit if you want to let viewers add it even when they already have lots of traits.

Changes save automatically as you make them.

Using Bulk Tools (Top of the window)

  • Buttons to Enable All or Disable All traits at once.
  • Options to enable/disable traits from a specific mod.
  • Reset All Prices — Returns every trait to its automatic default price (a confirmation will pop up).

Backups & Saving

At the very bottom of the window you'll see backup buttons (same as the Store Editor):

  • Save Backup — Makes a quick dated copy of your current trait settings.
  • Load Backup — Loads the most recent backup.
  • Save As... — Save your trait settings to a file with a name you choose.
  • Load file — Load a previously saved traits file.
  • Delete file — Remove a saved file.
  • Close — Close the window (all changes are already saved).

Tips for Good Use

  • Make strong or very useful traits cost more to add.
  • Make bad traits cheaper to remove (or even free to add if you want chaos).
  • Use the mod source list to quickly turn off traits from a mod that's causing balance problems.
  • If a trait has many conflicts with others, you might want to price it lower.
  • Test changes in a new colony before using them on your main stream save.

Note: Viewers use commands like !addtrait, !removetrait, and !replacetrait (and !traits to list them). The prices and availability you set here directly control what they can do.
